Responsible Procurement Code (RPC)

Responsible Procurement Code (RPC)
About:

Responsible Procurement Code (RPC) – the new procurement certification for UK organisations that helps to assess and reduce environmental, social and economic risks and impacts of procurement activities within your organisation and across your supply chains.

Why use the Responsible Procurement Code?

This service can provide an independent audit and certification to measure the sustainability of your procurement policies and practices and to assess how effectively these are embedded across your organisation.

The RPC incorporates an expenditure analysis of your responsible products and services and evaluates levels of responsible procurement and supply chain performance; it then uses this information to provide you with an audit report, recommendations for improvement and a targeted workshop.

Its authors developed the RPC to help you identify sustainability risks within your procurement practices as well as respond to your organisation’s sustainability commitments and your customers’ requirements and expectations for evidencing, implementing and improving good procurement practices – those which recognise and attempt to lessen social and environmental impacts of doing business.

Benefits of the Responsible Procurement Code

The RPC offers a range of benefits for your organisation, including:

  • a better understanding of the social, environmental and financial risks associated with the products and services that you purchase
  • help to mitigate sustainability risks associated with regulation, operational activities, supplier operations, customer requirements and raw materials availability
  • identifying and realising cost savings
  • identifying and reducing environmental and social impacts
  • recognition of procurement performance through the award of a Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze certification
  • instilling continual process improvement through regular assessments and recommendations
  • information to help you engage with your internal (finance, procurement, environment , CSR and marketing teams) and external stakeholders

The RPC audit tool is aligned with best practice for responsible procurement, most notably the UK government’s Flexible Framework and the British Standard guidance BS 8903.

It also complements other good practice, including Environmental Management Systems (EMS), the ISO 14001 standard and the Social Value Act, to provide you with an independently verified, holistic and robust assessment that evidences the sustainability of your procurement activities.
