NBS compatibility

National Building Specification (NBS) is the industry standard specification library.

National Green Specification (NGS) was set up to offer a similar service with an environmental flavour

NGS’s Green Building Specification (GBS) and Robust Specifications (GBS RS) are designed to complement NBS.

GBS clauses are written specifically to address issues of environmental sustainability.

GBS RS are written specifically to fend off Value Engineering, Cost Cutting and Specification Substitution

They are comprehensive and have a role at all stages of the Demand and Supply chain

They brief the design team and answer all the questions from the QS, they enable competent tendering, provide for information for correct purchasing, instructions for supervision, installation, maintenance and end of life.

NBS adopts and develops the Construction Project Information Committee’s (CPIC) classification system Common Arrangement of Work Sections (CAWS) 1998 edition and 2012 in NBS Create

GBS adopts and develops the CPIC and NBS versions of CAWS to enable integration into NBS-based specifications.

GBS adopts NBS clause numbering to provide for easy clause assimilation.

GBS also adopts CAWS 1998, CAWS 2012 and Uniclass 2015 to fit current and future specification systems and BIM
