Time:
- 13:00 Lunch, sponsored by BESA / CIBSE
- 14:00 Technical Seminar
Venue: Royal Harwich Yacht Club, Woolverstone, Ipswich IP9 1AT
Speakers:
- Blanca Beato-Arribas, Senior Research Engineer and Asset Performance Team leader at BSRIA
- Joe Flanagan, The Ingenious Air Company (Hi-Velocity UK Ltd)
- How can we turn our buildings into safe havens from pollution?
- The growing air pollution crisis across UK cities has created a huge opportunity for building engineering specialists to promote the importance of indoor air quality (IAQ).
- Headlines around diesel emissions and the country’s failure to adhere to EU limits and World Health Organisation recommendations on airborne pollutants have thrust building ventilation, air conditioning and filtration into the limelight.
- The BESA is working with partner organisations across the sector to deliver best practice guidance and expert advice on indoor air quality in a bid to ensure building occupants are shielded from the worst effects of rising outdoor pollution.
- This extends to hospitals, schools, commercial offices and homes with more research suggesting the health impacts on building occupants are becoming increasingly serious.
- The most vulnerable groups – such as school children and hospital patients – are at particular risk.
- The meeting will hear from members of the BESA Indoor Air Quality group about their work in this area; the most important factors in measuring, monitoring and improving IAQ; and progress on technical guidance from the Association.
- The group includes representatives from BSRIA, CIBSE, the Construction Products Association, and leading charities – so the expertise is widespread and well informed.
- Please come along to learn about this growing area of building engineering services work and have your say on the matter.
- A Q&A session will conclude the seminar
