The Architect’s Climate Action Network (ACAN) invite you to join us in solidarity and support of registered architect Tom Bennett as he reports his conviction for breaching section 14 of the Public Order Act 1986 to the Architects Registration Board. Tom was arrested on Waterloo Bridge in April 2019 while peacefully protesting with Extinction Rebellion (XR) and subsequently found guilty, more of his story here.
On Tuesday 10th December at 1pm ACAN will be delivering an open letter to the ARB office, 8 Weymouth St, London, W1 5BU.
We urge architects and anyone concerned about the future of humanity on this planet to join us in supporting Tom as he faces potential disciplinary action for his peaceful protest. We consider that Tom has acted with conscientiousness, honesty and integrity. Through non-violent demonstration he has upheld, at personal cost, the reputation of architects generally. We call on the ARB to ensure that The Architects Code: Standards of Professional Conduct and Practice is not a barrier to activism and action.
We invite you to sign the open letter supporting Tom, share it with anyone who may wish to join the signatories and if possible gather to physically demonstrate this backing for half an hour on Tuesday lunchtime. In this time of climate emergency we must stand together for what we know is right.
