About:

Understanding the use of Data to Drive Behaviour Change

The UK Government aims for all public and private sector organisations to have smart meters by 2020.

This should remove estimated bills and give customers better information to manage their energy consumption.

The potential savings, estimated by the Government at 2.8% reduction for electricity and 4.5% for gas are conservative.

Carbon Trust estimates the benefits at over 10% savings achievable.

Evidence from trials has shown that whilst a rapid initial improvement occurs, there is only a small net benefit after 12 months.

Whilst robust data is being provided through available meters, and sometimes transferred into information through visual dashboards or graphics, the step to providing actionable insights is missed out when trying to implement changes in the building and to the behaviours of those in the building.

There is a gap regarding how successful behaviour change, from robust information, can maintain the benefits to both Government and the end user.

Smart Meter Survey

A survey is being undertaken in conjunction with DECC to understand the commercial and public sector requirements for data and information, including how the knowledge is provided, to affect behaviour change.

This will be predicated on achieving the savings anticipated together with maintaining them over time.

Go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DNFZ596 to take part in the survey that will only take 10 minutes to complete and you will receive a copy of the final report and invite to the launch.
