Ecocem Next Generation Cement
Ecocem Next Generation Cement
About:
GBE Incubator
- Certified as CEM III/A 52.5L, the strongest cement classification available in 25 kg bags
- High resistance to sulfate attack and chloride penetration attack
- Good resistant to Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR)
- Compatible with recycled glass aggregate (Avoid OPC)
- Increased durability minimises repair requirements
- Reduced permeability
- Lower Heat of hydration, reduced hydration thermal stress and micro cracking
- Improved resistance to fire
- Suppresses efflorescence
- Lighter brighter colour contributes to albedo when used externally and facing sun and helps reduce urban heat island effect, and lighter appearance when used as fair face concrete
- Improved workability
- Helps meet GPP Green Public Procurement objectives: of durability, reduced CO2, GHG & Ozone Depleting Substances
- Helps meet Carbon Reduction Commitment if embodied carbon is included
- Helps reduce Embodied Carbon in building materials
- innovative bags 3 layer construction paper and double overlapping film; optimising filling speed and density, stable palletisation, reducing cement loss, moisture protection, doubling shelf life.
- Bespoke timber pallets: with a returns policy.
- Calculated Embodied CO2 for bespoke size pallets
Benefits:
Benefits: Characteristics:
- OPC Cement Replacement (up to 65%) with GGBS
- Bagged Blended GGBS+OPC making low Carbon Cement available to all on any size project
- Bagged Blended GGBS+OPC avoiding need for blending on site (avoiding unfamiliar properties)
- Ecocem self-declaration: 9.7 kg CO2/tonne (Blended 60:40 GGBS:OPC)
Benefits: Marketing:
- Literature and CPD seminar are good step in right direction in developing understanding of GGBS replacement of OPC
- Strong programme of staff, merchant staff and customer training, CPD programme, exhibitions, seminars & conferences
- Special properties of GGBS are highlighted at every opportunity, in technical data sheet and customer presentations
Benefits: Packaging:
- Bagging the cement makes it possible for all SME builders to access and use low carbon cement in many applications
- innovative bag: 3 layer construction paper and double overlapping film;
- optimising filling speed and density, stable palletisation, reducing cement loss,
- moisture protection and moisture permeability outwards, doubling shelf life
- Dypack paper sack PEFC number is: DC COC0379/10 of DIN Certco PEFC.
- Dypack only use wood and wood products from sustainable forestry.
- Registered with Repak Waste Regulations Compliance Scheme http://www.repak.ie Registration No. 6295
- Pallet suppliers are ‘traders’ Registered under EUTR European Timber Regulations 22/02/2013
- Returns policy in place for bespoke timber pallets.
Benefits: Materials:
- Predictable but unfamiliar properties of GGBS are avoided by pre-blending GGBS with OPC
- Uses up to 65% less OPC that an OPC only cement
Benefits: Properties:
- GGBS & OPC blended cement is lower CO2 compared to OPC cement
- High resistance to sulfate attack and chloride penetration attack
- Good resistant to Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR) compatible with recycled glass aggregate
- Increased durability minimises repair requirements
- Lower Heat of hydration, reduced hydration thermal stress and micro cracking
- Improved resistance to fire
- Suppresses efflorescence
- Lighter brighter colour contributes to albedo when used externally and facing sun and helps reduce urban heat island effect,
- lighter appearance when used as fair face exposed concrete
- Improved workability
- 2011: 58% CO2 reduction for 60% GGBS+40% OPC compared with CEM I (100% OPC)
- Up to: 63% CO2 reduction for 65% GGBS+35% OPC compared with CEM I (100% OPC)
- 2011: 9.7 kgCO2/bag CEM III/A 52.5L Low Carbon Cement compared with 22.7kgCO2/bag Imported CEM I in UK (100% OPC)
Benefits: Applications:
- All normal applications for OPC cement apply to this product
- Slower initial set of GGBS is accelerated by the presence of OPC in the mix
Benefits: competence:
- NSAI 0050-CPD-097 Certificate of Conformity 23/03/2012
- EN IS 197-1:2001 NSAI Certified;
Benefits: Endorsements:
- Guaranteed Irish, (not promoted in English market)
How is this product worse than ‘normal’ or ‘average’ product in the same category?
Problems:
Problems: Marketing:
- Despite clear purposeful distinction in marketing there is a small risk that claims made for Ecocem GGBS cement could be misread as applying to Ecocem Next Generation Cement
- Travis Perkins counter staff may not be aware of the significant benefits of the product
- Travis Perkins counter staff may not be promoting its benefits
- Travis Perkins product visibility may not be good
Problems: Packaging:
- Bespoke pallet size has little use in open market place
Problems: Materials:
- Problems associated with OPC are reduced but not eliminated by addition of GGBS cement
- Despite a comprehensive marketing programme small risk of unfamiliarity of GGBS properties by designers and constructors
- GGBS is very low CO2, adding OPC increases the CO2
Problems: Properties:
- Ultimate strength development may be excess to requirements, which may be problematic in mortar and render
Problems: Applications:
- Slower strength development may need to be acknowledged in construction method on site
- Recycled glass aggregate may not be suitable due to OPC content
Problems: Product competence:
- Small risk that Irish certificates may still be rejected by English professionals and development control despite the rules in place
Problems: Accreditations:
- Small risk that Irish certificates may still be rejected by English professionals and development control despite the rules in place
Problems: Endorsements:
- Irish endorsement not used in English market
