Survey LSBU EREID Task 3
Dear Students
LSBU EREID page https://greenbuildingencyclopaedia.uk/?p=9905
Task1 > Week 2 Hand in https://greenbuildingencyclopaedia.uk/?p=9967
Task 2 > Week 3 Hand in https://greenbuildingencyclopaedia.uk/?p=10033
Task 3 > Week 4 Hand in https://greenbuildingencyclopaedia.uk/?p=10189
Your W3 > W4 Homework assignment
Life skill
- Read this more than once before you start, often during and at least once after you think you are finished.
- Read with highlighter in hand and highlight the important issues that you need to address
- Check off the highlighted items against your work until you have done it all
- Add deadlines to your electronic diaries with advance warnings and alarm calls on days of submission and attendance
Attendance
- I am now instructed to start the lecture at 9:30 for all future lectures
x pages with:
- your site and surrounds investigation, building and adjacent building survey/analysis or site investigation and buildings survey/analysis
- Use the lecture and the lecture PDF (contains much more than was presented in lecture) as a checklist for your analysis.
- Do not include many items that are not applicable, or you cannot get information.
- If an issue is important to your site but you cannot get information say so.
- Illustrations of issues addressed
- Consider one illustration per issue/paragraph one issue/paragraph per illustration
- You can substitute: icons, schedule, picture, cartoon, diagram, chart, etc. for illustrations.
- Make each page interesting to look at and consider them as part of the work hung on the wall with your scheme
- Use bullet points (summery of the issue) not sentences with bullets at the beginning
- Front load your bullets with the information that’s important or add the title, then ‘:’ the your text
- This becomes a checklist for presenting your scheme on crits and allows others to understand your scheme in your absence
What not to do:
- Do read the Academic Comments File (in the dropbox folder) and see what others did badly and do not do the same.
- I have split out of this the parts related to survey and create a new shorter file in the dropbox
For example:
- Make sure you are answering the requirements of the homework
- Remember the project brief and see what the site/building offers that might help meet the brief
- Number each issue, I will expect to see cross referencing backwards from subsequent homeworks and forwards (added later) between aspiration/requirement and its development through following stages.
- If the brief is too brief to allow cross referencing then expand the brief and cross reference
- I want to see that you can respond to a brief, analyse the site/building and see how it might help meet the brief.
- So beef up your brief if it falls short, to make it easier to relate the survey to the brief.
- Highlight the updates to the brief so I can see the differences easily.
- Remember you are not designing the building yet
Handing it in
- hand in at the lecture, on 1 or many sheets of A4 portrait or A3 landscape paper depending on how much you want to say;
- If you use multiple A4 or A3 bind, staple or footnote both so they can be found and read together
- File in dropbox task 3 folder, at latest midnight the day before lecture W4.
- If you have updated the brief add this to the Task 2 dropbox for me to consider and improve your score if applicable.
The deadline:
- Will be midnight 23:59 the night before the next lecture.
- Life skill: add it to your electronic diaries with advance warnings and early morning wake up calls
- But the files that arrive sooner will make me happier as a client.
- I will collect the last files at 04:00 am on the day of the lecture. (this is not your deadline)
- If you miss the deadline do the work anyway and do it as soon as possible, it will be taken into account in the final score minus one point for lateness.
The file naming convention:
- So that you do not overwrite each other’s work when you drop files into dropbox
- “W4 your nameEBB7525 EREID 2017. pdf” or .docx” or .doc”
- depending upon the version and software you use.
- (replace ‘your name’ above in the file name with your real name)
- Do not add extra hyphens or brackets or gaps to the file name, do not close gaps that I put there.
You can do the work with colour.
DropBox (how dropbox works left column and scroll down)
- Only email your work to me if you cannot use Dropbox, do try to solve your Dropbox problems
- Do not use Dropbox and email, I will find it in Dropbox
- I have opened and added your email addresses to a dropbox and invited you to visit to collect files and deliver files there too.
- I added subfolders which you will be able to deposit your files see and I will collect your file and move it from the subfolder to my computer to mark it.
- Let me know if you still have not had an invite to dropbox
Scoring: In the weeks context marking is: (7 points) (1 point potentially to Task 2)
- Was it on time?
- Was it delivered by dropbox?
- Was it delivered on paper at the lecture?
- Did the file name adopt the convention?
- Did it follow the homework brief?
- Have you done enough to analyse your site and/or building?
- Did you number items to allow cross referencing? To Task 2, 4, 5,…. To the end
- Did you upgrade your Task 2 brief in response to the Task 3 survey
