About:
Calculator Purpose
- Loft thermal insulation is often squashed down to the ceiling joists by possessions being stored in the loft
- The thermal insulation performance is significantly reduced when squashed
- Decking can be laid in the loft for possession storage above the insulation
- If the decking is laid on the insulation it to too will squash the insulation down to ceiling joists and diminish its performance
- The decking can be raised to a level above the insulation with a ventilation gap to avoid risk of condensation
- Convention (Rule of thumb or Regulations) says 50 mm gap between insulation and deck is necessary
- The deck needs to be raised on framing this is likely to pass through the thermal insulation
- The framing passing through insulation will create either a thermal bridge or an air passage for heat losses
- This calculator enables users to determine the heat loss due to legs or props or air gaps passing tough loft insulation
- No insulation, inadequate thickness, current thickness and squashed insulation, softwood framing and proprietary framing can be compared
- All permutations are included so a thorough analysis is possible
- Depending upon you choice of materials, thicknesses, framing, etc. guidance is given on the results.
