- While most focus around the Paris climate conference was on energy, materials deserve more attention since processing and transportation of them accounts for around 20 % of the CO2.
- The sun supplies 8000 times the energy we need, but we have only one globe and one fragile ozone layer.
- Construction is the largest economical sector that with the highest number of SME’s that are strongly connected to the local communities and are often more innovative.
- The problems for changes are not necessarily in R & D, but in I & I (Innovation Implementations).
- The barriers in improving the use of material and human resources have to be addressed and an action plan established on Best Practice.
- During the Dutch presidency of the EU Thursday April 14 there will be an Innovation Expo in Amsterdam North of a full scale Bio Based Building with around it probably some sustainable concrete and other key construction materials.
- The next day Friday 15-4 we like to have interactions with innovators (frontrunners and early adaptors, scientists technological and transition leaders, educators, entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, facilitators etc.) at a Symposium in or near Amsterdam or Rotterdam.
- The outcome of the event will most likely be the creation of Platform for Sustainable Construction, independent from present lobby groups in Brussels.
- At least we will know 15-4 what is feasible and what can be done to improve the present situation.
- New is not always better, but better is always new.
- It will also be a moment to establish a roadmap for the selected front-runners of materials.
- What the cost for each person to participate will be and how many will attend is uncertain.
- However, not numbers but, like with material resources, the quality of the human resources counts.
- The participations will be on personal invitations only.
