I was talking with Course Leader recently, and she suggested a project which I think is a good idea.
Some of the interiors could be to assemble & paint the Tower Bridge project - the Pause bench.
We would need a small team of people (6-7) and it would take 1-2 sessions to get the bench up and painted.
It would be even better if we can have this up in time for RIBA visitation on the 18th of September.
Do you, can we include that in the curriculum?
We shall fit it in, but make an educational opportunity out of it?
I can envisage once students have seen their design and technology tutors and if they do not wish to learn from others crits then they could do something on the bench.
I think there should be some discussion about timber finishes and choices and the aesthetic of reclaim and reuse.
Whose design was it? Ilona or the Construction team?
They will be in the year above so may not be available to ask.
Will anybody have a view about it being done and are there any limitations or risks?
Is it exposed to the weather now and does it need protection?
Is the species suitable for paint, stain or none?
Should it be painted and covered up or should it be left to weather, or stained to emphasis the variability of the reclaimed timber or stained to make it consistent?
Or painted in numerous colours? like deckchairs?
Is it to be used outdoors or indoors?
Have the profiles been designed/made for outdoor weathered use?
Do profiles need to be changed?
Will it be dismantled to ensure good coverage and will it go back together again?
