GBE Website & Statistics

GBE website has been developing since November 2012 and been promoted for about 6 months
1370 pages have already been created, new pages are added, it is constantly being updated and consolidated, on average 33 times a day.
This new site is already attracting an average of 2000 page views/day; it is regularly visited by Web-bots (pushing page views up to >6300/day) scrutinizing the content for search-engines so they will find content instantaneously in future. GBE promotes the new page additions and updates via Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and the GBE site’s blog, to the thousands of GBE followers.

How Do Products Get Included On GBE Website?

GBE chooses products it wants on the website to help to achieve Healthy, Environmental, Appropriate, Effective, Resourceful, Competent, Construction.
It uses GBE Pre-PASS process to screen out other products.
Manufacturers or Suppliers of the preselected products pay for the time it takes to create and link the pages on the website.

This website is planned and being built like a human brain, related pages link to each other so wherever a user lands on any page they can see every other page that contains related relevant information, listed and linked, so they are just one click away and can be interrogated without any further navigation or searching of lists.

GBE Enrichment

In order for the GBE website users to understand the relevance and importance of any system, product or accessory or any of their properties or attributes GBE links the manufacturer’s Product and System pages into parts of the GBE Encyclopaedia and visa versa, including:

GBE Jargon Buster to explain abbreviations, acronyms, words and phrases and provide meanings and how they apply to environmental design, with examples and opinion.
GBE CPD seminars to explain environmental construction, procurement or specification in more detail
GBE Checklist to promote green alternatives to default or habitual choices and steer away from bad ones
GBE Defects to analyse problems, explain how and why they failed and offer potential solutions
GBE Solutions to explain in detail how a manufacturer developed a solution to a defined problem
GBE Code a code for design of Healthy, Environmental, Appropriate, Effective, Resourceful and Competent
Construction
GBE Patterns patterns are design principle to be adopted to meet the GBE Code
Linking the manufacturer’s pages to the GBE Encyclopaedia and visa versa is carried out at GBE expense
as it enriches the experience of the users but has the added advantage of linking more users to the manufacturer’s pages.

Document Downloads

There is no limit to the number and type of document added and linked to pages, but GBE tries to limit the content to those files appropriate to the scope of the page.
Files sizes have an upper limit of 2Mb and larger files are linked to on the manufacturer’s own website.
This first group are the only parts of the website that manufacturers pay for, GBE pays for the other linking and enrichment to make the user experience richer and fruitful.

GBE Services on offer are comprehensive and aim to be joined up from the outset, manufacturers can be selective initially and can progress towards a more comprehensive and joined up set of parts in future.
Manufacturers information needs to be free to designers and specifiers to download so there is an inevitable charge to the manufacturer for these services but they are as low as we can keep them.

GBE has developed a service that is a combination of many small low cost elements whose prices are set and calculable, there is a calculator to download for you to add your shopping list to determine the total cost, add or subtract services to find a price that suits your budget.
GBE assumes the success of this services is based on the number of the documents downloaded; the specification being the most important document of all because it incorporates all of the important requirements of all the other documents and it ends up in the project contract and generates actual orders.

GBE is developing a service where the cost of the service is determined and agreed in advance, pages are created and the downloads are monitored, only when downloads are successfully occurring can GBE justify a fee, if they are not occurring GBE will work harder on the GBE Linkages & Enrichments (described below) until they are, and then the fee becomes payable.

GBE is experimenting with providing a minimum service on credit (price determined and informed in advance) until it proves to be working (document downloads; 1 or 2 weeks is enough to know) once the services if proved then the manufacturer pays for the minimum service in full, and GBE shows the manufacturer what can be added to increase the likely document downloads which the manufacturer can choose to commission or not.

GBE is also going to experiment with half payment and remainder in installments, this will only be offered to Micro SMEs and not available to SME Small to Medium Enterprises.
The initial payment for setting up being set by GBE price and your scope, and this price is for one year.
Subsequently GBE is considering GBE will report on web stats based on document downloads alone, and invite the manufacturer to pay what they think the service is worth to them (GBE assume the more downloads the better, the more its worth) if the service is not benefiting the manufacturer then the pages will be removed and no further money is exchanged or GBE work on further enrichment until the pages start generating downloads, and then a renewal fee is due. It is in GBE’s interest to optimise the manufacturer’s pages to maximise downloads and GBE will.

About GBE
GBE launched in 2001 and set out its agenda, which includes creating an encyclopedia of environmental construction, its first major output is GreenSpec website launched in 2003.
In 2009 GBE also uploaded 300 CPD, Specification and other information files to Scribd in USA to see if this information was of wider interest In 2012 GBE has set off on a third major output and established a separate GBE website to:

Out of 11,000 planned pages, 1330 have already been created, so it’s only scratching the surface so far.
GBE are pleasantly surprised by the GBE Webstats, which confirms the approach described here is working.

What Else Do GBE Offer to Manufacturers?

PASS Product Assessment Sustainability Screening compares any product with an average product in the same application group; showing how they are better or worse than average and highlighting their environmental credentials.

PASS Group Comparison collecting together basic data about many products and organizing into numerous sort orders based on KPI, EPI and SPI (Key, Environmental and Social Performance Indicators), ranking them and providing average and best in group scoring.

Data Schedules:
One process GBE Product Data Collection collects data manually, which then automatically feeds into and creates:
