Hard To Treat Cavities (HTTC) Jargon Buster
About:

Definition:

Narrow cavities, buildings of 3 storeys or over and properties where substantial remedial works are required prior to treatment.

It also covers situations where the characteristics of the property mean that non-standard techniques are required to complete the work.

Exclusions:

Not to be confused with: HTT solid wall properties.

Expansion:

Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA) has been working closely with the British Board of Agrément (BBA) and Manufacturers/System Designers to develop Cavity Wall Insulation (CWI) procedures to assess, fill and issue guarantees for so called “Hard to Treat” (HTT) cavities.

CWI is an effective energy saving measures and can normally be easily retrofitted to masonry cavity walled buildings.

It also helps to reduce carbon emissions. However CWI alone is not sufficient to meet Carbon Targets thethe UK is obliged to meet.

Almost 1 in 5 households already benefits from a CIGA Standard Guarantee.

HTT cavities are a particular focus of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and Green Deal which provide additional funding for properties where treatment is more costly; CIGA has addressed this by introducing a new CIGA HTT Guarantee to ensure that where work is completed according to detailed technical guidance a consumer Guarantee is now available.

Although more costly to treat, occupiers of HTT buildings will now also be able to benefit from this proven energy saving measure safe in the knowledge that the work will be completed safely and a CIGA HTT Guarantee will be provided.

Currently, the categories of HTT cavities where at least one system has been approved for the CIGA HTT Guarantee are; narrow cavities, buildings of 3 storeys or over and properties where substantial remedial works are required prior to treatment.

It also covers situations where the characteristics of the property mean that non-standard techniques are required to complete the work.

The CIGA HTT Guarantee is now available for these categories of HTT cavities where an approved system is used and subject to assessment and installation being made according to CIGA and BBA requirements.
