Problems:

Misunderstandings:

Solutions:

Consider:

  • Recycling of coated aluminium: See Z3
  • Recycled content aluminium: See Z11.2

Avoid:

  • Use of Virgin Aluminium See Z11.2

Minimise:

  • Use of Virgin Aluminium See Z11.2

Value Engineering:

Substitute:

  •

Health:

Wellbeing:

Safety:

  • Overhead untoughened glass once broken will form into shards of glass that will fall risking life and limb below
  • Overhead toughened glass once broken will reduce to small nuggets of glass that are less damaging
  • Overhead double glazing could be toughened in top sheet and laminated in bottom sheet, to capture broken toughened glass nuggets
  • Overhead laminated glazing once broken can escape from the glazing bars and fall risking life and limb below
  • Overhead laminated glazing needs to have deep glazing channels to help retention of the glass

Precautionary principle:

Recycle:

Recycled Content:

Use recycled aluminium in preference to virgin aluminium, 95% reduction in CO2 generated in production is possible

Maintenance issue:

  • Maintenance of sloping glazing can be problematic
  • Has the glass been designed to resist access loadings
  • Ergonomics of cleaning may prevent complete cleaning
  • See X22 Access and Maintenance Systems
  • Pressurised demineralised water supply via handle of long poles with squeegy on end
  • See S18
