- There is a lot to be learned from this video, but I have some observations:
-
ASHP is shown in a shady spot, (at the time of videoing)
-
Ideally ASHP is placed in a sunny hot spot (for as many hours as possible)
-
The bendy pipes between ASHP and building look too long.
-
All pipe runs need to be as short as possible to reduce heat loss.
-
Bendy pipes offer resistance to flow.
-
Bendy to accommodate thermal movement?
-
But too much thermal movement accommodation?
-
Even if thermally insulated they still lose heat.
-
Thicker thermally insulating sleeves will be better.
-
Such big valves/connectors: lots of exposed metalwork (act as radiators and convectors)
-
The valves/connectors at both ends of the bendy pipes need to be thermally insulated.
-
Thermally insulating sleeves and valve jackets are increasingly available today.
-
All internal pipes need also to be insulated well so as not to squander the heat and reduce the CoP.
-
The building should also be well insulated to reduce demand by improve performance.
-
You still have to feed ASHP with electricity which costs money.
- The greater the demand for heat the greater the demand for electricity the greater the demand for money and the greater carbon outputs.
- And the electricity has a carbon load if from mains electricity (it is getting better)
-
The efficiency could be increased significantly if the above are all addressed.
